Glue—The New Metal: How Composites are Changing the Way We Make Things
Caitlin Duffner, Material Engineering
Coach House, Green College, UBC
Monday, November 13, 8-9 pm
New materials have the power to revolutionize the way an industry functions. Historically, aerospace and automotive manufacturing has been heavily reliant on metals, but as new composite materials become available we are starting to see a shift. As we incorporate composites into products it is important to take a look at the science behind these materials in order to make smarter use of them and define potential defects at early stages of processing. This talk will provide an introduction to composite materials in several sectors and take a closer look at some of the science driving the industry forward.
Caitlin Duffner is a Masters Student in Material Engineering, specializing in composite materials. She completed her BS. in Applied Physics at Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon.
