Truth and Imagination: A Green College Leading Scholars Series -
From the series organizers of "Truth and Imagination," discover how teaching languages can lead to unconscious biases related to racism and other forms of exclusion, such as not recognizing the diversity of gender identities. What words do you want to use? Those that include or those that exclude? Why do words matter? The event will start by a contextualisation of the topic. It will be followed by a movie screening that shows an awareness workshop on the representation of gender identities for grade seven students from Vancouver French Secondary High School École secondaire Jules Verne (Conseil Scolaire Francophone de Vancouver) in November 2024. It will be followed by a Q&A session, before opening the floor to an awareness workshop tailored to the Green College audience.
Ingrid Broussillon is the founder and owner of Griottes Polyglottes. Her actions and engagements towards EDI practices in local school and private corporations received the 2020 Premier’s People Choice for the BC Small Business Awards, the 2023 Prix de la Palme Bleue for the Micro Entreprise from the Francophone Chamber of Commerce of Vancouver, and the 2024 Feminin Leadership Award from France Circle collective and the Société de développement économique de la Colombie-Britannique.
The event will be facilitated by Caroline Lebrec, FHIS Pedagogy Clinic Coordinator and co-recipient of the Global Fund from UBC Centre for Community Engaged Learning with co-recipients FHIS student partners Shreya Diwan and Savindya Mudadeniya, in collaboration with community-partner Ingrid Broussillon from Griottes Polyglottes.
