When Larissa was an eleven-year-old child, she experienced auditory hallucinations that would mark the beginning of a thirteen-year struggle with mental illness—one that is not yet over.
To this day, Larissa still experiences symptoms of a mental illness that has brought her to the adolescent (as well as the adult) mental health units of three different hospitals. There she discovered insights about the process of being diagnosed, dealing with the so-called “stigma” surrounding mental health, undergoing treatment and overcoming the challenges of recovery.
Larissa will share these insights, as well read excerpts from her creative non-fiction stories (published under the name “Larissa Fleurette”) in a collection called Becoming Silver Girl. -
