How is International Lawmaking Changing?

Contemporary lawmaking straddles conceptual and institutional boundaries between domestic, international and other planes. In addition, an increasingly diverse set of actors can shape international law in myriad ways. This has motivated scholars from a range of disciplines to try to develop more comprehensive, pluralistic and interdisciplinary accounts of lawmaking on the global level. At the same time, prescriptive questions about international lawmaking have become acute. This lecture will introduce key contemporary approaches to the study of international lawmaking and discuss examples in areas such as climate change, maritime affairs and public health.
