Legacies of "The Sixties"
Dianne Newell belonged to the first cohort of baby boomers in Canada to attend university in "The Sixties"—not the decade, but, as Doug Owram reminds us in Born at the Right Time, the era. Social revolution was in the air and, often, the streets. The story she shares links that context to the unanticipated choices she made in the years that followed.
Dianne Newell is Professor Emerita, Dept. of History and Professor, Institute for the Oceans & Fisheries at (IOF) and the Science and Technology Studies Graduate Program, UBC. She is Visiting Professor without term, Institute for Advanced Studies, Technical University of Munich. In her retirement she continues a regime of academic publishing and supports UBC through membership on committees at IOF, Green College (where she is Member of the Commons), Faculty of Graduate Studies, Registrar's office, and APE.
