An evening of theatre

Green College Players present An Evening of Theatre from March 24 to March 26 at 8 pm in the Coach House, entry by donation

Craving a little mystery and intrigue this weekend?

Come out to the annual production put on by the Green College Players—featuring three short plays co-directed by Resident Members Rita McNamara and Hilary Ball, and an all-star cast of Greenies!

Wondering what the night will look like? Check out our Q&A with Rita below.

On the three short plays:

Rita: The first one is a cute little interaction between two women who are fighting over a man—it's an excerpt from The Importance of Being Earnest.

The second bit is a story of revenge with a person seeking some sort of redress against a past wrong done to a family member.

And the third one is a murder mystery that has a raunchy, sexual romp connotation to it. That one's very funny and it's got the biggest part of the cast—there's like five people in it. It's quite a dynamic little show.

On what to expect from the cast:

The cast are grad students here at Green College. A few of us have had some formal acting training, but a few of us are doing this just because it's something we're doing for fun.

We've got a total cast of 8 people. The Murder at Twicknam Vicarage has 6 people in it. The central character has been murdered and they're trying to figure out who murdered him. And everyone has a motive because he's been sleeping with everyone and everything, including the couch. So everything has a reason to want him dead. There's a detective on site who's trying to figure out what's going on, and hilarity and hijinks ensue.

In the piece about revenge, there's a woman whose sister was spurned by this man who's now come into her barber shop and she has the opportunity to, sort of Sweeney Todd style, take revenge against this person who has wronged her sister. This one is a bit more of a dramatic piece.

[Instead of one show], it's more just a night of theatre—so there's not really a single story that's going on. It's quite a diverse set of emotions that we're tapping into across this show.

On entry by donation:

This is the same sort of set-up in all of the previous years we've done plays here. Just show up around 7:30 pm when the doors are open and entry is by donation—recommended donation is something like $5. This will go to Covenant House—a homeless shelter for at-risk youth [in Vancouver]. We are strictly not for profit, so all of the donations will go to Covenant House.
