Social Development Visiting Lecturer in Residence at the School of Social Work and Green College, University of British Columbia

The School of Social Work and Green College at The University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus invite applications for the position of Social Development Visiting Lecturer in Residence in the academic year 2018-2019. This short-term position offers the opportunity for a scholar or practitioner or human rights activist from a country in the Global South to be in residence at UBC for 2-3 months during Term 2 of the 2018 Winter Session (January-April 2019).  The Visiting Lecturer will participate in the intellectual and social life of a graduate residential college with a mandate for interdisciplinary studies as well as in the academic life and community engagements of the School of Social Work. The position aims to facilitate exchange on research and practice oriented projects related to global, social, and community development and social policy.

The Visiting Lecturer Program is supported by a fund established with a generous gift from the estate of Professor Emeritus, Dr. Richard B. Splane. The Social Development Visiting Lecturer is expected to strengthen UBC capacity in global social policy and social and community development and to foster collaboration across UBC and with local communities where there are similar strengths and interests. Several units at UBC (the Office of Regional and International Community Engagement, the School of Community and Regional Planning, Green College, and the School of Social Work) support this initiative and will encourage their faculty, students and staff to participate in related events and open space for exchange and networking.
