  • Large cities are driving their countries forward. It is, therefore, arguably a reality that the standard of living in capital cities and major megalopolises is higher than that of the rest of a country. However, this is not the case for a small number of countries.

So how do we measure this discrepancy? Is there an upward or a downward trend in city-country inequality? Is there a limit? Should national policies address this gap? These pressing questions will be discussed in this talk, which will build on an empirical study of 60+ global cities from around the world, including both developed and developing countries.
