“Give me a carrot, a beet, and a lime, I’ll make something so good – it should be a crime!” Marc Schutzbank is (not yet) Resident Poet-in-Chief at Green College. Marc, who hails from the US, came to Vancouver as a Fulbright Scholar to live, play and stage outrageous parties, passover seders and plays at Green College. He is a Greenie, and also a greenie, having graduated MSc from the Integrated Studies in Land and Food Systems program at UBC, where he investigated the economic viability of urban farming, exploring how urban farmers are developing their businesses here in Vancouver. One of those farms was Fresh Roots. Fresh Roots is a charitable organization working towards Good Food For All. It does that by building educational farms and programs on school grounds to help youth grow, cook, share and thrive. Marc has worked with Fresh Roots to develop a green-thumb business model that does social good. He and Fresh Roots have been singled out for BC Business’ 30 Under 30 and the BC Social Innovation Youth Award. He returns to Green College this week to explain what he has been doing over the last few years.
