in the series Worlds of Wonder: People Making Places Sacred
What is Islamic Architecture today and what is it like in Canada? For over one hundred years Muslims have called Canada home and have built places of worship and community from coast to coast and as far north as the Arctic Circle. Examples of some of these places of worship will be presented, as well as histories of the communities that collaborated to create them. The speaker’s particular concern will be to examine the changing and various ways gendered space is created by the architecture of these places of worship.
