The Venezuelan crisis has been perpetually on the 24/7 news cycle for the last couple of years, but little is talked about the two very different ways of life. While top-rank government politicians and businessmen connected to the political elite have access to luxury cars and apartments, boutique hotels, and imported food and beverages, the rest of Venezuelans life very different lives with many living on a minimum wage of barely USD $2. These talk will include the work of photojournalists to help visualize the crisis and the current social dichotomy. Despite the growing inequalities, little has happened to pave the way for change. The question for this talk is, why?

Alejandrina Alvarez has a political science degree from the University of Toronto and is currently pursuing a Masters in Journalism from the University of British Columbia. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Alejandrina has focused her research and work on social justice, data analytics, and broadcasting journalism.
